SOCIAL WORK DAY HELD ON 22nd MAY 2008

THE CHINESE EMBASSY AND KENYA INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL WORK DONATED FOODSTUFF TO REHEMA DAYCARE AND ORPHANS CENTRE AT KOROGOCHO IN NAIROBI.       

The following were the activities that took place during the visit: -

TOUR OF THE CENTRE

After the visitors had been ushered in, they were taken around Rehema Day Care and Orphans Centre. This activity revealed that the following activities take place at the Centre

  • Education program

Rehema Day Care and Orphans Centre support all children by providing formal education. They comprise of orphans, abandoned single/teenage mothers, children and other parents who cannot raise fees

  • Feeding program

Meals are provided to all children and trainees during learning hours. The orphans are provided with all meals as they stay at the centre

  • Vocational skills training

Vocational training is provided to girls in tailoring and dress making to develop their skills to enable them to be self reliant in the future.

  • Income generating activities

The organization is also running income-generating activities. This includes keeping broilers and layers and also selling of school uniforms, bags and clothes made by trainees. This helps to raise money to support the daily activities of the centre.

ENTERTAINMENT

  • Rehema Daycare and Orphans Centre

Rehema Daycare and Orphans Centre pupils presented a dance that moved the crowd. The song was about welcoming all the visitors who had attended the function

  • Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development

Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development students presented a skit about HIV and AIDS. The skit was very educative in terms of enlightening the crowd about the dangers of ignoring the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

  • Chinese Embassy

The Chinese presented a dance that was enjoyed by most members of the crowd

Rehema Daycare and Orphans Centre
The Director of Rehema Daycare and Orphans Centre started by welcoming all the visitors that were in attendance and assured all the visitors that they were welcomed to the Centre not only on that day but at all times

Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development
The Director of Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development praised the Center for starting this noble project. He challenged them to keep up the spirit of hard work in order to maintain the high standards that had been achieved as at that time.

The Principal of Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development outlined the need to support the partnership between KISWCD, The Chinese Embassy in Kenya and Rehema daycare since it will go into benefiting the three partners if given the necessary support

Chinese Embassy
Her Excellency the wife of the Chinese ambassador to Kenya updated the congregation about the earthquake that had happened back on their home country indicating that the number of victims was about 30,000 and it was feared that the number would even be higher. She went ahead to explain the relationship between KISWCD and the Chinese embassy stating that it started recently but a lot of things ought to be done to nurture the relationship. She thanked the managers of Rehema day care centre for the efforts put to assist the less fortunate children in the slums.
