GENERAL OBJECTIVES TO THE COURSE
This is a one and half year course.
By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:
- Acquire knowledge and skills to be able to counsel using the systemic approach i.e. couple and family counseling
- Acquire knowledge on family psychology and family dynamics
- Identify and be able to counsel couples and families during challenging periods e.g. divorce, separation, terminal illness, death etc
- Explain the different parenting styles and how they influence the family members
- Conduct sex therapy
- Generate new knowledge by conducting a research study in an area of couple and family counseling
- Offer guidance and counseling services to couples and families in different settings e.g. schools, churches, community, private practice etc
- Understand the ethical considerations in counseling and incorporate them in their practice.

- Minimum qualifications are KCSE C- or KCE Div. 2 or the equivalent
- Certificate in Community development, Social development, Social work, Community Health, Counseling and Psychology.
- Course open to Beginners, Development workers, Social workers, Project managers and Fresh students
