KISWCD 2009 SPORTS DAY NEWS
The much awaited sports day for ball games was held on Friday 8th May 2009 at Nairobi Railways Club grounds. It was a do or die as various departments competed for various trophies. Big teams in previous games bit the dust as curtains fell on KISCWD ball games at Railways Club, Nairobi.
Volley ball Men
The winners were Social Development Department. They thrashed the Social Work Department 2-1 sets in the finals. This was indeed a remarkable comeback for a team that had never won in any previous ball games!
Volley ball Women
It was a return to action for Community Development Department who crashed the Social Work Department in this year’s finals. They won all the sets. Last year, Community Development lost to Project Planning Department, while Social Work Department carried the day.
Netball
Community Development Department carried the day by unsparingly storming Social Work Department. It was a spectacular show from ladies in green.
Basketball
It was an easy win for the men in orange. The Social work department got free winning points after social Development, Community Development and Community Health departments failed to take the action.
Football Women
Community Development Department team battled out with Social Development Department team in this year’s final. It was another great comeback for Community Development team after losing to social Work Department in the last year’s, finals. Community Development team goal keeper saved a crucial score deep into penalty time to steer Community development team to a narrow 4-3 win over Social Development team.
Football Men
The Social Work Department defended again for the third time their trophy this year. They tried hard to avoiding falling to Social development team who seem hard to crack. They edged out Social Development Department 2-1 in a tight game. The team clew back from 0-1 to edge out Social Development team 2-1.
Fun Games
The action would have not ended without funny games. Men and women competed in various fun games such as sack jumping, bread eating, dancing and tug of war. Students and staff battled out in the tug of war. The KISWCD staff won the tug of war after the students conceded defeat.
Best Team Overall
Social Development was able to scoop the Directors trophy by virtue of winning two trophies They snatched this cup narrowly from the defending champions Social Work Department.
